The Baby Bird Predicament

Why do we always get ourselves in these situations?

We arrived home tonight from the grocery store and we were bringing our bags in.
Something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye.

A tiny little huddled up ball of feathers laying on the ground.
It was right near where our dog and cat were hanging out.

ugh.
Did they do something to hurt this little guy?

I went over to assess the damage.

He was completely unresponsive

but breathing

and no signs of blood.

He wouldn't move.

He wouldn't open his little black eyes.

He wouldn't peep.

So...
my girls brains start swirling with ideas.

He needs a little dropper of warm milk Mom.

{{We've been reading the Sam Campbell books and this is how they revived a little bird}}

Here is what we did do~

they went out and dug some worms.

I chopped them up into bits and mixed the bits with water.
I forced his tiny beak open

and in dropped the worm juice.

mmmm....

we went back out a bit later and he was moving and opening his mouth for more.

guess I make a mean Worm Soup.

Now it's night though.

I can't go out every hour and feed this little fella.

We put him in an old abandoned nest in hopes that his parents will find him.

We haven't seen any signs of Momma or Daddy Blue Jay.

Do they take care of their young or put their eggs in other birds' nests?

I hadn't thought of that.

anyways~

Wish us lots of luck.

Remember how it went when we had the little shrew for an hour?
Poor Truman.

You can do it Baby Jay!!

Baby Jay didn't survive the night.

We are getting a lesson in the circle of life.

and yes...

we will be holding a funeral for our feathered friend.

The Mommas and Daddys of the little Jays we have seen lately (lots of them in our backyard) have always been nearby...so hopefully he can peep loud enough to call for them. Good luck little guy...you're in good hands. :) Does he have a name? Jay?

I saved a baby blue jay once and fell in love with him so we kept him inside. He was the smartest bird ever. He would mimic the phone and then bob up and down like he was laughing at me whe I would go to answer it:) Loved spaghetti and pizza too. We had him for 10 years. I would do it all over again;)

I'm so glad I got so see pictures of baby Jay! Sorry he didn't make it sweet girlie girls...but you sure gave him a fighting chance! I love you all so much and had so much fun at our birthday lunch today! Whitey is about to have a look alike chicky brother or sister. Oh what a sweet baby! I found 2 little baby birds at the same time while on a walk , this was about 2 years ago. I brought them home and nursed them. I fed them baby food and cat food from a can .. I used a bobby pin to feed them . One flew away and one died... I was so very sad. I hope your beautiful baby grows big and strong and healthy!
Blessings and hugs!
Gwen:)

Chasity bless you and your family for making an effort. I know the saddness we feel when we observe first hand the Law Of Nature.
Take comfort in knowing that this little soul was touched by angels or was it the other way around.
You were chosen you know that don't you.
