I have been studying the Restoration preachers this past week.....
Alexander Campbell, John Smith, Walter Scott....
Men from the 1800's who went against the grain.
Men who realized that the doctrines that they had been taught from their youth up were not in accordance with the Bible's teachings.
This would be a very hard thing to admit...that your beliefs are wrong.
That your parents are wrong.

This would be a very hard thing to admit...that your beliefs are wrong.
That your parents are wrong.
So many friends around you are wrong.
But these men put aside all preconceived notions and went back to the Bible as their guide.
They longed for the truth.
It is what every single one of us should long for.
Truth.
Yet it is so easy to live our busy lives and never wonder about our maker.... ...why we are here....what is our purpose.
I strive to be more like these noble men.
*To only look to the Bible for my answers
*To tell others that I care about their souls
*To have the courage to tell them of changes that they may need to make
*To not be ashamed of my Savior....Jesus Christ
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow, and the way is hard, which leads unto life, and those who find it are few.
Matthew 7:13-14
My prayer today is that we search our hearts and
search our Bibles for Truth.
Perhaps it isn't what we thought it was. But it isn't too late to change.
Don't blindly follow others....
Follow the example that we have been given in the New Testament. Apply what the apostles taught. Worship as the Early Church did.
If we do this...we will be pleasing to HIM.
Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
Blessings to you~

WOW! This post touched home. It is so like our church. They are there because their parents, and grandparents were there. Our church has grown a lot but what you said is so true.
God Bless,
Ginger
It is true that to go against the grain sometimes can be more than difficult. Sometimes it divides families as it did mine. I have hope that God can restore the divide and in time through my actions will bring them to know God.

Amen...especially nowadays that evil is prevalent. We must strive to know the truth that comes from God alone as the enemy can also pretend to be an "angel of light"...But we know that as we put that belt of truth, it will become a part of His armor that will protect us from the attacks of the enemies and to discern things.
Thanks for your prayers by the way and your encouraging comment. I appreciate them :) Blessings to you sister and may you have a wonderful week.
That's why I love the Presbyterian catechism so much... it answers those questions for me. My favorite Q&A (which I have said repeatedly): Man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. I just LOVE that!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Wonderful post.
I have been struggling with this issue. On the one hand, I feel a change is needed to be made; but on the other, I do not want to divide our family as Heart2Heart speaks of.
For the time being, I have decided that changing RELIGIONS is not worth the division it will cause in the relationship between my parents and me and just supplementing my spiritual needs through blogging, MOPs goups, Bible study, etc. is enough at this time.
Who know what will happen down the road. You sure gave me lots to ponder tonight.
Blessings,
Valerie
Often it is hard to stand up for what is right, good, noble, and true.
I praise GOD for the courage to do what HE has called me to do.

I am familiar with the restoration leaders you referred to. They were indeed brave men. They started out their movement by saying they were not the only Christians but they were Christians only. Somewhere along the way, this came to be "We are the only Christians.' I hope the restoration movement is moving back in that direction of being Christians only and not the only Christians. I do see signs of it in many churches.
Thank you for sharing with us today.
Blessings,
Charlotte
Great post, be blessed.
I just read my wife, Charlotte's comments and don't want to repeat them. I agree with her l00%. I have spent years studying the Restoration Movement and have many books on that subject and leaders like Alexander Campbell and Barton W. Stone. TRUTH! That is what's important. Thank you for your good post.
Amen and Amen. It took those forefathers to blaze the trail so we have the choices we have today.
Have a great week and God bless!!!
Wonderful post! John 17:17 says, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." We need to always be looking at our worship and our lives to ensure we are aligning ourselves with the Word of God. In John 8:31-32, Jesus encourages those Jews who believed on Him by saying, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." What a wonderful promise to anyone willing to believe and obey Him.
right Charlotte...
these men all independently realized that the doctrine that they had believed meant that only certain people were chosen by God to be Christians....but that isn't God's will at all...
God gives everybody an equal chance to repent and be obedient to HIM and that is his desire...
thanks to everyone for their comments~~

Wonderful post about the truth that is found only in Jesus Christ. What a fascintating time of history to be studying.
love your post
This sure hits home. Years ago, we had a bible study and the preacher pointed out to us some of the things that we were doing wrong/ not doing. I argued and argued with him, and he asked me to get out my creed book, which I did. When I compared it to the bible, I realized that the creed book did not match what the Bible said. I realized that I had to change. It sure was hard. Ever since then, I have tried to be more like the preachers that you talked about and seached the truth for myself. I have realized that I am responsible for myself and I can not just trust what someone else tells me. We should all be like the Berean's in Acts 17:11.
Thank-you for the Blog.
Wow! What a meaningful post.. Very touching.. I needed this post today..Thank you so much..

Beautiful post, Chasity! Our family was just having a conversation similar to this last night. So much of religion, of which our Country was founded on, is trying to be removed. We just have to have faith and to try to reach out to those who don't understand. I am never ashamed to say I am a Christian.
love you,
becky
Beautiful and touching post! Thank you so much for sharing this. What a great reminder for us all to look to our Savior for guidance. He alone knows our hearts and minds and can lead us on His perfect path.
A-men!!!
Chasity this was a wonderful post, as were the last several that I missed while out of town. It is a serious and weighty matter that so many take lightly. Satan has, since the beginning of time, been convincing God's creation that God doesn't really mean what He says. He meant it then, and he means it now.
No one should be rejoicing over man's shift to a "more open" policy with God's word. No one should feel superior and enlightened because they have come to accept all faiths and all so called forms of Christianity. This is man's wisdom, not God's.
The Bible produces the only Christians and Christians only. This offends many, but God's word is clear, and in the end, I prefer to be standing with God, and offending the masses, rather than standing with the masses and offending God.
Those men that tried to lead a Restoration back to the true church (in contrast to the Reformation that was trying to reform a corrupt denomination) cry out from the grave to those that would move back to parties and sects and a corruption of true Christianity.
If you find yourself in a church that teaches contrary to what you read in your Bible, or find what others have taught you is contrary to what you can read for yourself in the Bible, don't throw out God's word! Keep seeking the truth. It is there in black and white (and red :o) . There is one church spoken of in the New Testament. It was established on the day of Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2. Study, study and study some more. Much love to you all.
Warmly, Debbie
